LGR 2016: Episode 26 - Ballyhoo! Fables - Vol. 1 (Legends in Exile)
Sunday Aug 21, 2016
Sunday Aug 21, 2016
Welcome again to LGR Ballyhoo! Our spin-off series where we look at other forms of media connected to gaming properties. Put on your reading glasses and join Lee, Mark, Andy and Adam, as we follow-up on our recent enjoyment of TellTale’s THE WOLF AMONG US by reading the first volume of ‘Fables’: the comic book series written by Bill Willingham and published by Vertigo.
WARNING: The discussion on this episode covers the entire five-issue story arc of Fables: Volume One (Legends in Exile) and will touch on many key plot details. So beware spoilers when listening and when reading the notes below.
The Fables comic book series was first published in July 2002 and finished its current run in July 2015 spanning 150 issues. In this first volume we step into a strange but familiar world: the ordinary human life of contemporary New York shares an unknown parallel existence with the characters of fantasy and fairytale. Driven from their homelands by an enemy known as ‘The Adversary’, Snow White, Bigby Wolf, Bluebeard, Prince Charming, Beauty and the Beast plus many more ‘fables’ have established a secret community known as Fabletown.
However, instead of living happily ever after turmoil comes to Fabletown when Snow’s sister, Rose Red, is feared to be the victim of foul play. Who Killed Rose Red? That’s the question Sheriff Bigby (and our seasoned team of LGR amateur sleuths) investigate to uncover the truth at the heart of this fantastical mystery.

Very weighty listener questions are addressed by the team with the usual levels of insight and bewilderment.
With the quest to find out if Aliens: Colonial Marines is the worst video game in history now in full swing, and the usual glance at the news, Stuart Neill finds the most intriguing Lunch Hour Game Of The Week...

LGR 2016: Episode 24 - Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?
Friday Aug 05, 2016

... Not the Lapsed Gamer Radio crew!
Welcome back to another LGR PlayList episode. Under investigation this time is TellTale’s THE WOLF AMONG US, so please join the residents of Fabletown and have a howling good time with our wolfpack Sheriff, Lee, and his lycanthrope deputies Cev, Mark, Andy, Ali ‘Corn Wolf’ and Stuart ‘Furry’ Cullen.
WARNING: The discussion on this episode covers the entire game and includes many key plot details. So beware spoilers when listening and when reading the notes below.
Following the critical and popular success of their first graphic narrative adventure game THE WALKING DEAD, TellTale games developed and published THE WOLF AMONG US inspired by the Fables comic book series by Bill Willingham. As has become their trademark, these episodic TellTale game series modernise the LucasArts point and click adventure games of old, foregrounding story, character interaction and player choices over intricate puzzle-based gameplay. Albeit with sporadic action-oriented, quick time events.
In this tale, the player takes on the role of Bigby Wolf, formerly the Big Bad Wolf, the Sheriff of Fabletown, a hidden community of fairy tale characters located in 1980s New York City. After the shocking murder of a young woman, the safety of this clandestine populace is put at risk and Bigby Wolf soon finds that vice, corruption and civil unrest are the bedfellows of bloodshed.
The first episode was originally released in October, 2013 with the remaining four instalments following in 2014. THE WOLF AMONG US is now readily available across multiple platforms, to be played in its entirety, so how does this adventure rank among the TellTale canon and is this a mystery worth investing the time to solve? Stay tuned to find out.

Sunday Jul 31, 2016
Hello all and welcome to the latest episode of Lapsed Gamer Radio. On this show Lee, Cev, Stuart and Adam sit down and discuss the prospect of ideal first handheld systems for our children. Many of the LGR team are gamer dads and a large part of our experience of the hobby of videogames is now very much through the lens of a children’s eyes. We also spend some time discussing the recently announced Mini-Nintendo Entertainment System as that could well be a youngster’s intro to games if their parents are of a certain age.
